Hic sunt leones means “Here are lions” in Latin. Romans wrote this on maps
over unexplored territories. Metaphorically speaking this blog can help me
map out some of unexplored parts of my life. My name is Jens Martin Skibsted
& this is my blog (for commercial site check www.skibstedid.com). Most of
the content is aggregated from all sorts of online sources without much
intervention of mine + I bookmark a lot of stuff , take pics & occasionally
post a post. It’s kind of a reversed kaleidoscope that offers a tiny peek
into my life.

My purpose in life is to make new ideas come true. My day to day is somewhat
more mundane: I mainly do value innovation strategy, creative direction &
design, but love to make digressions into any area that involves a mix of
aesthetics, ethics & innovation. As I see it, the two top most important
things for us humans as we stand is to preserve our biosphere & create new
habitable biospheres in space. I contribute to the first through the urban mobility company
Biomega that I founded & I developed the philosophy behind
Actics, an ethical consultancy. I would love to find a way
to contribute to the second, but haven’t found that way yet. As a Creative
Director I’ve been working with some of the world’s leading designers such
as Yves Béhar, Marc Newson, Ross Lovegrove & Karim Rashid & helped position
a number of brands. As a designer I have created a series of award winning
bikes for Biomega (the Wallpaper Best Bike category, the ID Design
Distinction for consumer products etc.) & designed for Puma alongside the
likes of Philippe Starck & Alexander McQueen, been featured on the I.D. 40
list & in Taschen’s Design Now, & had products acquired for the permanent
SFMoMA & MoMA collection. I have authored books & I’ve done advisory/jury
work for Design 21, Schloss Solitude, INDEX, the Danish Design Center & a
host of media about design related matters.

However I will not steer this blog in this or any given direction & it will
not be about something specific. Hopefully a random pattern will form of
something unchartered. The pattern / tag cloud (I was always in the
clouds) can be changed by resetting the time scope. Obviously, the material
from before I started this blog (medio 2008) will be scarce.

I was born June 28 1970 in Sønderborg, Denmark, slightly before my father
died in a car accident. I grew up mainly in Francophone countries. I
graduated from the Paris film school, ESEC, in 1994, Philosophy from
Copenhagen University in 1998, & Project Management from University of
California, Berkeley, in 2000.
